ABOUT SACHA

I’m Sacha Roberts, the designer, maker, and creative mind behind every piece. I’ve been passionate about costume design and construction for as long as I can remember, blending artistry with precision to create stunning, bespoke garments.

I first began sewing seriously as a teenager, as a plus sized person interested in alternative fashion, I always had limited options - so decided to make my own clothing. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an artist, but making custom clothing very quickly became my specific passion.

My tertiary education began with a Certificate IV in Fashion Design & Technology, where I learned the foundations of pattern drafting, garment construction, fabric knowledge and design; I quickly realised that while I had a passion for fashion design, my creative strength was creating costumes and high fashion. With this realisation, I moved to Adelaide College of the Arts to Complete a Diploma in Costume for Performance; here Iearned, not only fantastic costuming techniques, but how to work in theatre as professionally as possible.

Since 2012, I’ve had the privilege of working as a freelance costume designer and maker, collaborating with a range of prestigious organisations, including the Adelaide Festival, Australian Dance Theatre, Adelaide Fringe, WOMADelaide, OzAsia Festival, and many more.

These experiences have allowed me to work on projects spanning cabaret, theater, film, and festivals, including large-scale productions and unique performances.

In addition to my freelance work, I currently co-run the costume department at Adelaide College of the Arts, contributing to the construction and maintenance of costumes for their productions. I also provide costume maintenance services for high-profile shows like Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, Frozen, Mary Poppins, and Hairspray as part of the Adelaide Festival Centre wardrobe team.

My work spans a wide range of creations— from burlesque and alternative bridal wear to drag, theatrical, and performance costumes. Each project is custom-made to reflect the client’s vision, ensuring a one-of-a-kind garment that blends creativity, function, and beauty.
